PT4 Make the Most of your ePortfolio: Festival entries, the right way

Here are our guidelines for formatting your NOISE Festival 2014 entries.

We’re always in the process of making NOISEfestival.com the best it can be, for  example, we have taught it to behave, when we have guests over. With the NOISE Festival 2014 “Call for Entries” ending this weekend, we thought we’d let you in on some of our tips and tricks for making your work look its best on the website.

Video

It's relatively easy to enter videos into the festival, but in case you're unsure, follow the steps below.

1. Go to your entry on YouTube / Vimeo.
2. Ensure your video is not set to private or unlisted. If it is not set to public, our Curators will be unable to watch and judge it!
3. Go to Share and then copy and paste the link shown into a new entry on your ePortfolio.
4. Fill in all the fields and save.
5. Go to your ePortfolio and double-check your entry is playable there.
6. Enter your work in
to NOISE Festival 2014 by pressing the pink button next to your work and filling in the form.

Music

If you’re entering some music/audio into the festival, it’s important you follow these steps carefully as incorrectly formatted entries are often external links and it’s extremely unlikely that our panel o
f top and very busy curators will click them. So here’s what you do:

1. Log into Soundcloud / Bandcamp and select the work you’d like to put on your ePortfolio.
2. For soundcloud, go to Share > Embed, the copy and paste the code onto a new entry on your ePortfolio.
3. For bandcamp, go to Share/Embed > Embed this track and select a style. Then, copy & paste the code onto a new entry on your ePortfolio.
4. Fill in all the fields and save.
5. Go to your ePortfolio and double-check your entry is playable there.
6. Enter your work into NOISE Festival 2014 by pressing the pink button next to your work and filling in the form.

Top tip: Fill out your descriptions and use cover photos! Entries that are dressed up are likely to get a second glance.

Text

If you would like to enter written word into the festival, it’s a little trickier. If you follow these steps, you can ensure your entry will be legible and not too bad to look at, either! You’ll need a basic idea of how html coding works, but if you’re clueless, we’re here to help!

1. Paste your work into Notepad – this will strip away any previous formatting and give you a lovely blank canvas to work from.
2. For a line break, use <br>.  Use this where you would usually press enter – that is to say, the more times you use it, the bigger the gap between lines.
3. This will make a word <b>bold</b>
4. This will make a word <i>italic</i>
5. This will <u>underline</u> a word
6. When you’ve finished formatting, copy and paste the whole lot into a new entry on your ePortfolio.
7. Fill in all the fields and save.
8. Enter your work into NOISE Festival 2014 by pressing the pink button next to your work and filling in the form.

Bottom tip: Remember, if you don’t fill in all the fields when you put your work on NOISEfestival.com, you make it hard to be found! Make sure you tag your work with the relevant tags and categorise it correctly, so you’re discoverable.
