STELLA VINE
NOISE Curator for Fine Art
Since Charles Saatchi bought her paintings in 2004, Stella Vine's painting of the tortured souls of celebrity have consistently caught the attention of the press. Stella has a column in The Guardian and is committed to promoting the work of new artists.

SELECTED WORK
'Plugs, Wires and Cables' by Rebecca Allen
Stimulated by a brief entitled 'Plugs, Wires and Cables' from her AS Level art exam, Rebecca Allen produced this collage representing herself in a place where other people are switched off. Stella comments, "Work can be easily destroyed by a commercial attitude rather than being brave; and Rebecca is brave. You don't have to be cold and cynical to make a piece of work".
'The Master of Speech' by Bradley Phillip
Bradley Phillip, 17, has achieved a place at Slade School of Fine Art. His arresting use of colour and style is a combination of bold figurative shapes with a sharper, expressionistic style, reminiscent of Basquiat. Stella praised his work, "I think it's a beautiful composition. You don't have to prove yourself, if anything take a few more risks!"
'Through Me' by Leah Capaldi
Leah Capaldi, 21, Brighton, is inspired by how women accept the way they are seen in today's 'raunch' culture. The piece is a still from the performance 'Through Me', where Leah, sitting as still as possible for one hour twice a day over five days, wears an oversized Mickey Mouse mask. This was a test of endurance (she could not see or move) and an exercise in analysing people's reactions to the way women are portrayed in popular culture. Stella liked the originality and determination of this piece, and offered some advice; "Keep finding places to do this. You don't need permission. If you've got confidence in what you're making then you can make your own platforms and venues"?.
