Jo Donn started her costume career at The Arts Institute At Bournemouth in 2002 Studying Costume for the Screen and Stage at degree level. During the three years of her degree she designed and made costumes from the 1600s through to the present day for prodcutions such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Magic Flute and A Doll's House. In her second year she took part in an international exchange to the University of Florida where she worked within the Theatre department. She worked as a dresser on the drama Big Love, was 2nd Costume Assistant on the showcase Dance 2004 and was employed as a draper on Taming of the Shrew, creating Bianca's wedding dress, patterning Bianca's day dress and developing the 'butt ruffle' understructure for all female costumes in the production. In her third year, Jo chose to specialise in costume design. She designed the opera The Tales of Hoffmann, giving it a sexual slant that emphasised the innuendo of the piece. For her Final Major Project she designed costumes for the musical Grand Hotel, establishing an artistic style that combined painting, collage and Computer Aided Design. Her designs evoked the fast pace of the production showing dancing figures and swaying costumes. Jo has also worked on Pantomime for Evolution Productions in Kent and for the International Festival Workshop as Wardrobe Supervisor on their Feathers and Frolics burlesque showcase.
