Throughout my degree I have worked across two main genres-Textiles and metal but I have always preferred metalwork. I work mainly in sheet copper to produce one-off ornamentla boxes. In the final year of my degree, I focused mainly on inspiration that I took from the over-elaborate and detailed interiors of our churches and cathedrals, intentionally working with a view to crafting hollow, empty vessels which function to represent objects of ritual within the church. Through use of decorative processes such as enamelling and flocking(applying velvet fibres to a 3-D surface), I have managed to produce a range of objects which, for me, describe the superficiality and emptiness that I believe exists in my home country, Ireland, at present.
