introduction

My three years on the BA (Hons) Illustration course has filled my artistic palate with new skills and methods, I have been convinced of my need to illustrate and to remain firmly attached to the art world.

A recent graduate of the BA (Hons) Illustration course at Southampton Solent University. During my three years there I have engaged with a number of projects, which have allowed me to explore and experiment with a variation of different media and processes. Exposure to a number of talented practicing illustrators, including the courses own teaching staff and fellow coursemates, have introduced and taught me new styles of illustration and different skillsets. When learning new skills or applications, by putting them into practice I can easily become self-sufficient. My interests lies in all manner of things, largely the natural world, thus my work reflects as such.

Southampton Solent University

Qualification:

First Class Honours

Location:

Three years at Southampton Solent University, studying in the Wooly Bully Illustration studio, formally opened by Sir Peter Blake in 2011.

During this course I have been inducted into various processes and ways of manipulating media by fantastic tutors // technical instructors and practicing illustrators; Jonny Hannah, Peter Lloyd, Clari Cusk, Louise Weir, Derek Rodgers, Pete Jarvis, Bjørn Lie, Marcus Oakley and Salvatore Rubino.

Working alongside talented coursemates and friends has enabled me to progress and sculpt my own skills and method of working. The availability of the printroom, 3D room and equipment such as the lasercutter, printing press and screenprinting beds have allowed me to be resourceful and feed the need to create!

My time here has been well spent and thorougly enjoyed, and will consequently be sorely missed.

'Hannah Bartlett, is a professional illustrator who has completed a portrait for myself. It has been used as my brand logo for my social media and my professional items such as business cards and call sheets. Hannah completed my illustration through combining aspects of a few photographs together. The details I wanted the viewers to be drawn to were the eyes and the camera, enhancing the photography elements. The level of the work completed was outstanding and the drawing was completed exactly to the discussed brief. I am very pleased with the outcomes and I will continue to request artwork from Hannah in the future.' - Annabelle Smith
