introduction

Whimsical, experimental and engaging are 3 words I would choose to describe my illustration. I love to combine the ordinary with dreamlike elements, creating a vibrant world for children and adults alike to escape and yet relate to. Illustration provides a platform enabling the impossible to become reality.

I grew up by the rainy seaside of Hastings and have been drawing and creating from a young age, often being inspired by nature or my own imaginary world. Children's Books have always been the main focus of my work, with influences coming from childhood classics such as Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake, Edward Lear and Aesop. A strong focus on narrative surrounds my illustration and there is a strong element on morality. Children learn and benefit from moral tales where there is also an educational idea, so this not only creates a playful place for my audience to escape to but also teaches sensitive issues that could challenge the young reader in a delicate manner to provoke a subtle understanding of lessons to be learned in life. I use a variety of materials and processes to show my ideas, combining hand drawn elements with different textures and typography to create a playful and engaging atmosphere.
